PDF signature generator
Make a clean signature image once and reuse it on any PDF: draw it or type it in a handwritten style, choose the ink colour, and download a transparent PNG.
Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.
Why use it
Transparent background
The PNG has no white box, so it sits naturally on any page or colour.
Trimmed and sharp
Empty space is cropped away and the image is exported at a resolution that prints well.
Created on your device
The signature is drawn and saved in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or kept.
How it works
Draw or type
Draw your signature with a finger, stylus or mouse, or type your name and pick a handwriting style.
Choose the ink
Black, dark blue or another dark colour that stays readable when printed.
Download the PNG
The image is trimmed to the signature and saved with a transparent background.
Use it anywhere
Place it on a PDF with the Add signature tool, or in any app that accepts images.
What makes a good signature image
A signature image is used at small sizes, on all sorts of backgrounds, and often printed. That puts a few demands on it which a photo of your signature on paper rarely meets.
- No background. A photo includes the paper, and paper is never quite white, so the signature arrives inside a grey or yellow rectangle. A generated signature has a transparent background instead.
- Tight cropping. When the image has a lot of empty space, scaling it into a signature box shrinks the actual ink. The generator trims the image to the strokes themselves, with a small margin.
- Enough resolution. A signature that looks fine on screen can print as a blur. The generator exports at a size that stays sharp when placed on an A4 or Letter page.
- Dark ink. Light colours vanish in greyscale printing and photocopies. Black and dark blue are the safe choices.
Drawing versus typing
A drawn signature is the closest thing to your pen signature. Draw it slowly and at a comfortable size: the stroke is smoothed, so small wobbles disappear, and the line width varies with speed the way ink does. On a phone, turn the screen sideways for more room.
A typed signature renders your name in a handwriting typeface. It is consistent, legible and quick, which makes it a good choice for routine documents. It does not look like your pen signature, and it does not need to.
Keeping your signature image safe
Treat a signature image like a rubber stamp: useful, but not something to leave lying around. Store it somewhere private, do not post it publicly, and do not send it to people as an attachment. For documents where someone might later dispute who signed, do not rely on an image alone. Send the document through a signing workflow that records who opened and signed it; the page on PDF signatures explains why.
Next steps
Once you have your PNG, add it to a PDF (including on every page for initials), or sign a document directly with the Sign PDF tool, which can use a drawn, typed or uploaded signature without saving an image first.
Frequently asked questions
Is a generated signature legally valid?
An image of a signature is one way of showing intent, and many electronic signatures are images. What usually matters legally is that you intended to sign and that there is a record of it. For contracts with other people, a signing workflow records that evidence.
Should I draw or type my signature?
Draw it if you want it to look like your handwritten signature. A typed signature in a script style is quicker and perfectly readable, and many people use one for everyday documents.
Why a PNG and not a JPG?
PNG supports transparency, so the signature has no white rectangle behind it. JPG does not, and its compression can blur thin strokes.
Can I use the image in Word, Google Docs or email signatures?
Yes. It is an ordinary PNG file, so any app that accepts images can use it. Keep the file private, as you would a rubber stamp.
Do you keep a copy of my signature?
No. The image is created by your browser and downloaded to your device. It is never sent to us.
