Content Writing Agreement

This agreement is made on 24 October 2026 between Hannah Brooks (the "Writer") and Cedarline Accounting LLP (the "Client").

1. Deliverables

The Writer will provide four blog articles a month on small-business tax and bookkeeping, each of 1,200 to 1,500 words (the "Content").

2. Briefs and deadlines

The Client will provide a written brief for each piece, with the topic, audience, keywords and any sources. The Writer will deliver a draft within 10 working days from an approved brief.

3. Revisions

Each piece includes two rounds of revisions, requested within 7 days of delivery. A piece with no revision request in that time is treated as approved.

4. Changes to a brief

If the Client changes a brief after writing has started, the Writer may charge for the work already done or treat the change as a new brief.

5. Originality

The Content will be the Writer's original work, will not copy others' material without credit, and will be checked for accuracy against the sources given. Any use of AI writing tools will be agreed with the Client in advance and disclosed.

6. Rights

On payment in full, the Writer assigns copyright in the Content to the Client. The Content will be published under the client's name, with no byline for the writer. The Writer may show published pieces in a portfolio unless the Client asks in writing that they not.

7. Fees and payment

The fee is GBP 0.15 per word, invoiced at the end of each month. Invoices are due within 14 days. Late invoices carry interest at the statutory rate.

8. Confidentiality

The Writer will keep the Client's non-public information confidential and use it only to write the Content.

9. Ending the agreement

Either party may end this agreement with 14 days' written notice. Work delivered before the end is paid for, and pieces in progress are paid in proportion to the work done.

About the Content writing contract template

Freelance writing goes smoothly when the brief, the deadline and the rights are agreed before the work starts. Most disputes come from unclear revision limits or late payment, and both are easy to settle in writing.

This template sets the deliverables and word counts, how briefs are given and approved, the turnaround, the number of revision rounds included, and what happens when a brief changes after writing has begun. It sets the rate and payment terms, transfers copyright to the client once the invoice is paid, and says whether the writer gets a byline and may show the work in a portfolio.

For ghostwriting, keep the byline clause as it is; for bylined articles, name how the writer is credited.

Questions

When does the client own the content?

When the invoice for it is paid in full, as section 6 says. Until then, the writer keeps the rights, which encourages payment on time.

What counts as a revision?

Changes within the original brief. A new angle, a different audience or extra sections is a new brief, charged separately under section 4.

Can the writer use AI tools?

Section 5 requires original work and lets the parties agree how AI tools may be used. Many clients ask for disclosure, so the template makes it explicit.
