Notice to End Tenancy
24 October 2026Dear Grace Whitfield,
I am writing to give notice that I will end my tenancy of 12 Elmstead Close, Leeds LS6 2PQ (the "Property"), under the lease dated 1 December 2025.
Notice and end date
This notice is given under clause 14 of the lease, which requires two months' written notice. My tenancy will end, and I will have moved out, on 24 December 2026. I will pay rent up to and including that date.
Final inspection and keys
I would like to arrange a final inspection on 24 December 2026 at 10:00, or another time that suits you that week, so that we can walk through the Property together and agree its condition against the check-in inventory. I will return every key and access card at the inspection.
Deposit
Please return my deposit, less any deductions agreed at the inspection, to the account the rent is paid from, ending 4417. If you propose any deduction, please send the reason and the evidence in writing so that I can respond.
Contact after I move
Please send post and any correspondence about the tenancy to 88 Hollin Lane, Leeds LS16 5LZ. I will also give you my updated contact details at the inspection.
Meter readings and utilities
I will take final meter readings on the move-out date and send you a copy, and I will close the utility and council tax accounts in my name.

About the Lease termination letter template
Ending a lease is simplest when the notice is in writing, names the right lease, and gives the date the tenancy ends. A clear letter avoids the usual arguments about when notice was given and when rent stops.
This template is written from the tenant to the landlord, but works the other way round with the roles swapped. It cites the notice clause, gives the move-out date, asks for a final inspection, and gives a forwarding address and account for the deposit. Asking the landlord to sign and date it gives the tenant proof the notice was received, which is often more useful than proof of posting.
Check the notice period in the lease and in local law before sending: a fixed-term lease may not allow early termination at all without a break clause or the landlord's agreement.

What the lease says, and never less than local law requires. Count from the day the landlord receives the letter, not the day it is written.
Why ask the landlord to sign?
A signature acknowledging receipt is clear proof of the date notice was given, which settles when the tenancy ends.
Can a landlord use this letter?
Yes, with the roles swapped, but a landlord's notice often has to follow a prescribed form in law, so check the rules for your area first.
