Website Design Contract

This contract is made on 24 October 2026 between Northlight Studio, of 18 Rue des Martyrs, 75009 Paris, France (the "Designer"), and Atelier Brun SARL, of 6 Place Bellecour, 69002 Lyon, France (the "Client"), for a new bilingual website for the client's furniture workshop (the "Project").

1. Scope

The Designer will design and build home, about, a portfolio of up to 30 pieces, services, journal, and contact with an enquiry form, in French and English, built on the client's chosen content management system (the "Website").

2. Client content

The Client will supply all text in both languages, product photos and the logo files by 15 November 2026. The Client confirms it has the right to use everything it supplies.

3. Design and revisions

The Designer will present designs for the Client's approval. The fee includes two rounds of changes to the homepage design and one round to the inner page designs. Each round is one consolidated set of feedback. Approval of a design may be given by email.

4. Launch

The Designer will launch the Website by 20 January 2027, provided the Client supplies content and approvals on time. If the Client is late, the launch date moves by at least the same number of days.

5. Fees

The fee for the Project is EUR 9,600 excluding VAT, payable 40% on signing, 30% on design approval, 30% on launch. Invoices are due within 14 days. Work outside the scope above is charged at EUR 85 per hour and starts only after the Client agrees an estimate in writing.

6. Support

For 30 days after launch, the Designer will fix defects in the Website at no charge. Changes to content or features are not defects.

7. Hosting and handover

At launch the Designer will hand over all logins, domain access and admin accounts to the Client. Hosting, domain and third-party subscription costs are the Client's.

8. Ownership

When all fees are paid, the Client owns the final design and the Website's content. The Designer keeps ownership of its pre-existing tools, code libraries and know-how, and grants the Client a permanent licence to use any of them included in the Website. Third-party themes, fonts and plugins are licensed under their own terms. The Designer may show the Project in its portfolio.

9. Ending the contract

Either party may end this contract by written notice if the other materially breaches it and does not fix the breach within 14 days. The Client pays for work done up to the end date.

10. Governing law

This contract is governed by the law of France.

About the Website design contract template

Website projects slip for two predictable reasons: the scope grows one "small" addition at a time, and the client's words and photos arrive late. A website design contract deals with both up front. It lists the pages and features, says what the client supplies and by when, caps the rounds of design changes, and states what extra work costs.

This template ties the launch date to the client delivering content on time, so a late delivery moves the launch rather than becoming the designer's problem. It separates design approval from launch for payments, includes a short support period for fixing defects, and explains what happens to hosting and logins at handover.

Ownership is the part clients ask about later. Here the client owns the finished site once paid in full, while the designer keeps their general tools and code libraries and may show the work in a portfolio. Third-party themes, fonts and plugins stay under their own licences, which the client should know about before launch.

Questions

Who owns the website when it is finished?

Under this template the client owns the final design and site content once all fees are paid. The designer keeps their reusable tools and the right to show the project in their portfolio.

What counts as a design round?

One consolidated set of feedback from the client and the designer's revision in response. Gathering all feedback into one message per round is what keeps the number meaningful.

What if the client wants more pages later?

Section 5 prices extra work at the hourly rate, agreed in writing before it starts, so additions are welcome but never assumed to be free.
