Use case
eSignature for law firms: client paperwork signed, matters started sooner
Small law firms and solo practitioners spend surprising time on their own paperwork: engagement terms, retainers, NDAs, client details. E-signatures move that part faster, as long as you know where the law still asks for more.
The firm's own paperwork
Lawyers draft documents for clients all day, but the documents that start each matter are the firm's own: engagement terms setting scope and fees, a client information form for identity and conflict checks, retainers for ongoing advisory work, NDAs before a client shares a deal. These are routine and should take minutes, yet they often wait days for a client to find a printer.
Engagement terms
Most regulators expect clear written terms at the start of a matter: what the firm will and will not do, who is responsible, how fees are charged, and how complaints are handled. The consulting agreement template is a sound base for advisory work, with capped day rates, confidentiality and a mutual non-solicitation clause; replace its terms with your firm's standard client care wording. Saved as your own template, a new matter's terms take a minute to prepare.
Client details and conflicts
The client onboarding form collects legal names, registration numbers and contacts in one document the client confirms and signs, alongside their consent to your terms and privacy notice. It is not a substitute for identity verification where anti-money-laundering rules require it; use it to gather the details you then verify.
Confidentiality and ongoing advice
Before a client shares a transaction, a mutual NDA protects both sides; for ongoing advisory work, a retainer agreement sets monthly hours and what happens beyond them.
Where the law asks for more
Electronic signatures are valid for most contracts in most countries, but not for everything. Wills, many deeds, powers of attorney, some property transfers and documents that must be witnessed or notarised often need additional formalities. Salsox provides simple electronic signatures with an audit trail; it does not offer witnessing, notarisation or qualified electronic signatures. Use it for the documents that do not need those, and the right process for the ones that do.
Evidence
Every completed document comes back with an audit trail showing each signer, the time and the device. On the Business plan, the signed PDF is sealed with a certificate page, and anyone can check a document's verification code on the public verify page to confirm it has not changed since signing.
Working with clients who are rarely at a desk
Many clients, especially business owners, read the engagement terms on a phone between meetings. Links can be shared by WhatsApp or SMS as well as email, open in any phone browser, and walk the client through one field at a time. If an email address was wrong, correct it on the document and a fresh link goes out, without losing anything already signed.
Fees and retainers
On the Business plan, a retainer or an initial fee can be paid as the client signs the engagement terms, by card or mobile money, straight to the firm's own account. Check your rules on client money before taking payments that must be held separately.
Templates to start from
Each opens in the editor with its signature fields already in place.
Business contracts
Consulting agreement template
The contract behind a consulting engagement: what the consultant will advise on, how they are paid, who owns the reports, and the confidentiality and non-solicitation terms clients expect.
Business contracts
Partnership agreement template
For two or more people running a business together: who put in what, how profits are shared, who decides what, and what happens when a partner wants out. Written before it is needed.
Business contracts
Service agreement template
The general-purpose contract for a business supplying services to a client: what will be delivered and to what standard, fees and payment, how long it runs, and how it ends.
NDAs
Mutual NDA template
A two-way non-disclosure agreement for when both sides will share confidential information: partnership talks, a joint project, or a supplier evaluating your business while you evaluate theirs.
Freelance and contractors
Retainer agreement template
For ongoing work billed monthly: the client pays upfront for a set amount of your time each month, and both sides know what happens with unused hours or extra requests.
Forms, consent and waivers
Client onboarding form template
Collect what you need from a new client in one signed form: who to talk to, who pays, what they want to achieve, what access you need, and their agreement to your terms and privacy notice.
