Troubleshooting9 steps

My PDF won't upload

Fix the common upload problems: a file that isn't a PDF, a PDF over 4 MB, or a scan that's too large, with free ways to shrink it.

Uploads take PDF files up to 4 MB. The message under the upload box tells you which limit you hit.

"Please choose a PDF file."

  1. The file is something else, such as a Word document or a photo.
  2. In Word, Google Docs or Pages, use Save as or Download and choose PDF. On a phone, most apps have Print, then Save as PDF or share as PDF.
  3. Upload the new PDF.

"This file is larger than 4 MB."

  1. Large PDFs are usually scans or contain big photos.
  2. Shrink it with a PDF compressor, or scan again at a lower resolution: 150 dpi in black and white is plenty for signing.
  3. If it's a long document, split off only the pages that need signatures.
  4. Upload the smaller file.

The page shows an error instead of the document

  1. Some PDFs are damaged or password-protected. Open the file on your computer; if it asks for a password, save an unprotected copy and upload that.
  2. Still stuck? Re-export the PDF from the program that made it, or print it to a new PDF, and upload again.
